LANDMARKS 2008
July 5th to Sept 4th.
Following the success of last years ‘Landmarks’ mixed exhibition in a wide variety of media, we are running ‘Landmarks 2008’ show throughout July and August with familiar faces and many artists new to the gallery.
Owner of Nant y Coy Arts, artist and inspirational teacher Margaret Merritt is passionate in her creative striving for balance between the experience of the raw wilderness of nature and inner energy of the act of painting, and is showing several works in our Foyer gallery.
Sculptors Denis Curry, whose fine anatomical bronzes capture the grace and character of animal and bird life, and Mike Davies showing an abstract direct burn out iron work ‘Fifty Percent 2008’. West Wales School of Art 2007 graduate Mark Hilde is exhibiting a refined architectural ‘Crescent’, a work underpinned with the concept of fluidity and form in nature.
Painters Maggie Brown, Andie Clay, Carole King, Glenn Ibbitson, and Beth Robinson convey the riches of the Pembrokeshire land and light shining through their works, as do artists new to the gallery though well established in Wales Kathryn Dodd, Jan Gregson, Elizabeth Haines, Sonia Benskin Mesher, Rosalind Sharples and Milford Haven artist Angela Spillane who enjoyed a week as artist in residence here earlier in the year.
Partners Rosemary Miles RCA – assemblage works, and Mike Holcroft RCA sculpture and painting from his innovative ‘Safe As Houses’ series which questions the marking of the landscape by mankind, show recent work following their brilliant solo shows in the gallery. Howard Coles RA from North Wales who was the featured artist in our inaugural exhibition in May 2006 is exhibiting painting which go beyond the descriptive through his open ended response to the upheavals, the act of creation of the earths crust.
Two artists from the Swansea Print Workshop, Judith Stroud (director) and Rose Davies who exhibited here alongside 25 other printmakers in April showing original prints are exhibiting collagraphic and monotype prints.
Jeweller Sarah Lloyd-Morris brings to life elemental metals such as copper, gold and silver, set with semi-precious stones in her fine collection of land inspired pendants and earrings.
This promises to be an exceptional and eclectic selection of fine artists, all searching out creative truths and personal experience in the Pembrokeshire Landscape which will undoubtedly reward the viewer. There is plenty for all to enjoy on many levels.
In tandem with the exhibition are works in our Craft Gallery featuring Wood Turners in July - Cen Chilcott (who will demonstrate woodturning on July 12th and 13th) Ronnie Roberts, Jo and Leigh Rihan and boxmaker Roger Sztencel of the Pembrokeshire Craft Circle; and in August colourful and delightfully detailed paintings by Sarah Earl.
All works are available for purchase through our interest free instalment plan scheme.
Invest in an original work of art, Invest in pleasure.
All works are shown at the discretion of Nant y Coy Arts.
